Markham's plan was a plan I could live with, I Favorable-Carbohydrate Menu Options 111 couldn't keep my mouth shut about it. After a couple of months, it became obvious I was doing something, and I was getting many questions about how I was losing all this weight and could I please share my "secret." And as my friend had done for me, I began converting as many people as I could to the Total Health plan. Without even knowing it, I became sort of a walking billboard for the Total Health plan, living proof that it really worked. Not even the Internet was safe from me. I began recruiting women from my mom's groups online who then joined his online program at. Because of the changes that I made in my own life following Dr. Markham's Total Health plan, I now saw that Dr. Markham had changed many other people's lives as well-through me! I am pretty sure that if you followed a trail starting from me on down through all the people I've turned on to the Total Health plan, you would find literally thousands of pounds lost. And I am just one person. I can't even begin to imagine how many total pounds have been lost through some type of direct or indirect contact with Dr. Markham's Total Health plan. Truly, it has changed lives. As of right now, I have lost nearly 70 pounds in less than a year, have gone from a size 22 to a size 12-14.1 am still going toward my goal of a size io. My goal for weight loss was to lose 88 pounds total, and I have no doubt in my mind that I will achieve that. My husband has lost 55 pounds and now wears a size 30 pants! It's unbelievable. Together, we have shed 125 pounds simply by following Dr. Markham's plan. It has literally changed our lives. I am exercising more. I am spending more time playing with my children at the beach instead of worrying about how I look at the beach, and I finally "feel good in my skin." Dr. Markham's plan of eating works because it fits into our lives. It is easy to follow and never feels like a "diet." It just makes sense to me, and from the moment I started the plan, I have never looked back. I can't imagine ever going back to the way we ate before. "Free" Snacks Sugar-free Jell-O and homemade sugar-free Popsicles (made in a Popsi- de mold with Crystal Light lemonade or sugar-free soda) are about the only acceptable free snacks. You may add some reduced-fat whipped cream to the Jell-O. Not getting enough exercise? You're not alone. The number of Americans whose idea of physical activity is reaching for the remote control has reached crisis proportions. In 1996, a U.S. surgeon general's report estimated that 60 percent of adult Americans were not physically active on a regular basis. And 25 per- cent of adults-that's one in four Americans-were not active at all! In 1999, a follow-up survey conducted for a nonprofit weight loss support group reported that nearly half (48 percent) of Americans claimed to exer- cise regularly. That figure-while encouraging-still leaves more than half of Ameri- can adults on the couch.
